New Publix eases shopping for WPU students

The new Publix supermarket on 417 W Peace St. has recently opened its doors to the public as of Sept. 2.

The supermarket allows for people to shop at their own convenience. The store also has a pharmacy, a bakery, a deli, a butcher, and seafood area.

Cristian Martinez, a sophomore and Simulation and Game Design major, is both an employee at Publix as well as a student who attends William Peace University.

“I like how pretty close it is to WPU because you can walk over there,” said Martinez.

Publix is just a seven-minute walk from WPU as well, making it convenient for students to shop at the supermarket without having to need a car for transportation.

Martinez also mentioned how he loves the work environment at Publix and how both of his coworkers and managers are nice to him. He even recommended WPU students to consider Publix as an option for work.

“[The job] is pretty flexible and if you can’t find the time during the weekend, you can talk to your manager and they’d be happy to help,” he said.

The Publix has also caught the favor of a few students who attend WPU. “It’s very convenient between leaving campus and going home,” said Brittany Carpenter, a senior and exercise and sports science major. “ It’s really helpful that it’s right there.”

Carpenter said that her favorite item to get at the supermarket is the popcorn chicken. She says “It’s super cheap and you can get an entire meal for $6 and it’s really good.”

Skyler York, a freshman and simulation and game design major, gave some positive feedback about the supermarket. She walked to Publix, which is even close to campus than the Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant.

“It was nice and it was a lot quicker than I thought it would be,” said York.

York mentioned the store was organized and clean; something she liked about the store. She also said that the people working at the store were nice and even saw a few workers sanitizing shopping carts that were used.

Publix has received positive feedback from a few of the students at WPU. The supermarket is also featuring a student discount for students.

You can get a 10% discount around move-in time and a 5% discount for the rest of the semester with proof of a student identification.
