These are just a few restaurants all within walking distance from William Peace University campus that have affordable meals under $15.
While students on-campus have access to Belk Dining Hall, Peace Perk and Bowlful, there are other inexpensive meals to eat nearby. Bowlful opened last semester inside of Belk Dining Hall and has a similar design to that of Chipotle or Moe’s.
They offer burrito bowls where you pick your protein, grain of choice and toppings. They also have a “build-your-own swirl bowl” where students can customize their smoothie bowl to their liking. The smoothie bowls are $4.99. Bowlful lets you pick your own milk from almond to oat and choose your own toppings.

The food on campus has mixed reviews based on polls and surveys from previous semesters. Kyla Martee thinks there should be more options on campus.
“I love going to Krispy Kreme, but I always find that sometimes the experience is great and other times it’s not, the prices are what stop me from going,” said Martee, freshman at WPU.
Here are some other budget-friendly options for students that are near campus:
Big Ed’s Restaurant is a southern chain founded by “Big Ed Watkins” that’s been downtown Raleigh since 1958. They serve breakfast all day with the slogan “Country Cooking at It’s Best.” This restaurant is a little farther from WPU than other options; it’s about a 20 minute walk.
On Wednesdays the restaurant has a lunch deal called the “Blue Plate Special.” A student gets barbeque pork with their inhouse sam’s house, slaw, two sides, tea or coffee and a choice of dessert all for $11.50.
Peace China is a Chinese restaurant located at Seaboard Station. It’s a three minute walk from WPU. On their website they claim to have fresh, local, and sustainable food.
An entree at Peace China costs $11.50 and has delicacies that range from General Tso’s Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Shrimp with Broccoli and Sweet and Sour chicken.

Although Publix is a grocery store, they have cafeteria style food from their bakery to their deli. A student can order ahead and have their sub ready for pickup. The subs start at $6.59 and range from their popular chicken tender sub to their Italian subs.
For an extra dollar, a student can make their sandwich a combo which includes chips and a drink. They have a wide range of chips and drinks to choose from. An entire footlong meal with chips and drink only cost $11.87. It’s also close to WPU, only a three minute walk.
Seaboard Cafe is a restaurant that was opened in May of 1991 by Rick Pearles. They started off selling hotdogs, hamburgers, and fajitas. It’s a four minute walk from WPU. They close at 2:30 p.m. during the week so it’s best as a late breakfast early lunch spot.
Every day they have different lunch specials from either the grill or deli. They have options like a mushroom provolone burger to a Carolina turkey reuben sandwich. All lunch specials are $13.95. Their most popular meal is the Char-grilled burger that’s served with criss-cross fries and a kosher pickle for $11.25. They offer soup combos, salads and desserts.
