Is Raleigh too expensive for your college budget? Walked around the Seaboard more times than you can count? Students at Peace are looking for new places to explore in Raleigh without breaking the budget.

I like it for the most part,” said Emily Parris, a first year student. “It’s not super walkable and I wish there were better crosswalks and public transportation. The variety of shops and restaurants is great!”

Other sentiments from students include concerns about how expensive food and activities can be as well as general safety concerns.

So what are some of the cheaper locations that William Peace University students enjoy to visit in the downtown area?

Dorothea Dix Park– A Free park located in Raleigh that everyone can enjoy. Though not easily walkable from Peace, this park offers a beautiful view of Raleigh at any time of the day.

Coming into the park, there is a stretching landscape that is pretty hard to find in any downtown city.

The park itself has many trails stretching throughout its 308 acre area. The park is perfect for walks with your friends during the day, and even has plenty of space to bring your dog along to play.

Students aren’t just looking for new places to walk around. “Downtown Raleigh has so many unique shops and restaurants that appeal to everyone.” said Caitlin Corll, a student at WPU, “It’s a great place to find a new hangout spot.”

Morgan Street Food Hall– Located on Morgan Street, which is adjacent to Franklin Street, this food hall features over 20 different food vendors and a sprawling location to walk around and sit in.

From burgers to sushi, tacos and even Indian food, there is a restaurant for any food you’re feeling when you walk in. On top of all the food vendors, they even have an axe throwing experience as well.

For friend groups that can’t decide what to eat, or someone just looking for a new place to eat, Morgan Street food hall offers a fresh experience every time you visit.

Museum of Natural Sciences– Just a few blocks away from Peace is the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. This experience stretching over 2 buildings in the heart of downtown is a free museum with hours worth of exhibits worth looking at.

Perfect for dates or just spending time by yourself, the museum has a variety of live animals and interactive exhibits for everyone to enjoy.

Additionally, the Museum of History is right next door to the museum and offers even more for visitors to do while they spend the day there.

With a city this dense, there is always something new to explore. What other locations in Raleigh are your favorite place to stop by?
