William Peace University is going global with two opportunities to study abroad.
Adair Robertson, a retired mathematics professor and Kathy Corley, an adjunct professor at Peace, have partnered up to bring this immersive learning opportunity to life in 2024 this summer.
“The value is incredible,” says Corley, “This is a chance for you to reach out to people who are different from you.”
WPU is offering two opportunities for students to explore the world: a trip to the British Isles and the Yucatan Peninsula.
Each of these programs are focused on the culture of different locations around the world. Their goal is to expose students to various locations and further their perspective on various cultures and the history of other countries.
Casey Dees, a senior majoring in political science, went on the London and Paris trip this past summer. The trip was led by Matt Hodge and Dr. Elizabeth Kusko, both professors at Peace.
“Some of the benefits that I experienced was getting closer with friends and also getting closer with professors and just building those relationships more thoroughly,” Dees said.
To make the trip affordable to college students, the program offers travel scholarships. But, for the first time this year, Financial Aid will be giving out travel scholarships as well.
The cost of the Yucatan Peninsula trip is $4,759, while the British Isles cost $3,600. Peace offers a Ragland scholarship of $1,000 to students who hold a GPA greater than 2.6. There is also financial aid available with similar value for students who qualify.
Everything is set up through EF Tours, which handles all of the payments and offers different payment plans for students. You can either pay it all at one time, or pay in installments.
The first trip is from May 15-26 will take students throughout the British Isles, where there are various excursions throughout with the trip ending in the Republic of Ireland where students will tour the capital city of Dublin.
The second trip is from June 8-21, will be to the Yucatan Peninsula where students will get to visit the capital Merida along with Mayan ruins and villages.
Both new and returning students to the study abroad program are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity in the summer. This opportunity allows them to experience traveling abroad for a discounted rate and immerse themselves in a new culture.
“My joy is seeing the faces of students experiencing things they wouldn’t have,” said Corley, “Your lives will be touched by global influence.”
