William Peace University’s esports teams are in the thick of the playoff race, each fighting to secure their spot in the postseason. Throughout the season, they have faced challenges that have pushed them to compete at the highest level. With only a few matches remaining, every game matters, making these final matches crucial in determining their playoff fate.
Rocket League
The Rocket League team has been on a roll as they are undefeated with a record of 4-0, sitting in first place in their division. The chemistry from the team is at an all time high and it is showing on the virtual pitch as the Pacers have been dominating opponents.
“We have been on fire this season, but we need to keep pushing and taking it one game at a time,” said Braydan Koegel.
The Pacers have 3 games remaining in the regular season and are looking to secure the number 1 seed to gain a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
Their next opponents will define this team heading into the playoffs as they will face off against Drury University and Minnesota State University. Both teams are looking for an upset over the Pacers as they are right behind them in the standings.
“We want the one seed, I believe we can go undefeated and win it all,” said Koegel
Head Coach Coleman Arehart will ensure the Pacers are well-prepared for their upcoming matches, guiding a team that has been driven by strong leadership and standout performances.
“Half way through the season we are undefeated and unsatisfied. They know that regardless of their position at the top of their division, they have aspects of their game to improve on,” said Head Coach Coleman Arehart.
Overwatch
The Pacers’ Overwatch team started the season strong with two consecutive wins but faced setbacks in their last two matches, bringing their record to an even 2-2. Now sitting in third place in their division, the team is in a crucial position as they push for a playoff spot. With only two matches remaining in the regular season, every game matters in securing their postseason future.
Captain Sam “Starman” Wagoner has been making sure his team is ready to make a push for the playoffs as each game and practice intensifies.
“We have made tremendous headway with our team this season. While we may not win every game, we celebrate the progress we’ve made and cherish the smaller victories,” said Wagoner.
Despite facing tough competition, the team remains resilient, using every challenge as a learning experience. With a playoff spot still within reach, they are determined to give their best effort in the final two games, knowing that each match could make or break their postseason chances.
“As we get ready for the second half of the season, we plan to keep this high energy and momentum so that we have a shot at the playoffs this semester,” said Wagoner.
With the season winding down, the Pacers are ready to leave it all on the line in their final two matches.
Super Smash Bros
The Super Smash Bros team has gotten off to a rough start this season, currently sitting at 0-4. With the playoffs still within reach, it is crucial for the team to give it their all and take what they learned from previous matches to improve as a team.
“We have been having a rocky start because our competition is very good, but I can see improvement over the horizon,” said Captain Nathan “Hawx” Hawxwell.
The Pacers have three games remaining in the regular season and will need to win out in order to qualify for playoffs.
“I have faith that the team will continue to get better throughout the rest of this NACE season,” said Hawxwell.
With the season winding down, the Pacers are focused on making the necessary adjustments to turn their season around. Their ability to adapt and push through adversity will determine whether they can rally in time for a postseason run.
