There’s no need to panic; the debris falling near the Ross hall is not the sky, just the shingles and dust being removed as the building receives its long-overdue renovation. It’s projected to wrap up approximately on October 8th, and the progression is visible for students walking by to see near the Dining Hall.
The project to renew Ross Hall’s roof was needed as it reached the end of its cycle. According to John Cranham, the assistant vice president of building and grounds at William Peace University, the roof at Ross Hall was due for replacement.
“The life cycle of the existing roof had reached the 25 to 30 year, and that’s a normal process for the campus,” said Cranham.
Apart from replacing the shingles of the roof, the underlay was another major concern when it came to the project.
“There were two different layers that were on the roof from previous installations,” Cranham said. “The underlying was not what we were looking for. So they’re going to put a different layer on there to make it last another 30 years.”
Although Cranham saw the need to renovate the roof as essential, he believes the renovations should have been done sooner. Zeb Davis, a first-year majoring in Exercise in Sports, feels that the timing is inconvenient and noisy and that it could have been delayed until a less disruptive time.
“I feel like this is kind of pointless,” said Zeb, “a little bit of a waste of time when it comes to renovate some of the renovations they’re trying to do on the school this year.”
Students and faculty can expect to see the new renovations by the following week.
