Located next to Wake Med Hospital, the Human Services building is providing free flu vaccines to college students.

As flu season approaches, doctors say it is important to get vaccinated and minimize the spread of the virus.

“There’s a lot to offer for college students”, said Administrative Assistant Maria C Diaz, “They can get free flu shots if uninsured starting October 5th, every Friday from 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.”

The vaccine will be available in nasal and shot forms, and no appointment is necessary. As a college student the free vaccination is a big a help, especially for the student on a budget.

“I like that they have this service because I’m always broke,” said 21-year-old Wake tech college student Marian Lorin Mercedes.
The Human Services building also offers the free services to uninsured pregnant women and those in close contact to infants, less than six months of age.

Students are eligible to apply for Medicaid and food stamps. Other services provided are Free HIV, STD testing, condoms, low cost birth control for females and GYN physicians.
