A large group of students and families gathered in Kenan Auditorium on November 16 to watch five singing finalists compete for the title of Peace Idol. WPU students Christiane Newell, Sid Tripathi, Julie Davis, Rema Alzer and Dalton Hood gave it their best for the audience and three judges Nabeel Jaitapker (Randy), Julie Ricciardi (Simon) and Aneisha Montague (Paula). Ryan Davis was the host, William Peace’s very own Ryan Seacrest.
Up first was Christiane Newell who sang “Red” by Taylor Swift. The second performance was done by Sid Tripathi who sang an Indian ballad and “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. Third to perform was Julie Davis who sung “At Last” by Etta James. Next was Rema Alzer who performed a rap song that she wrote herself. And finally, Dalton Hood sung “Climb Every Mountain” from the Sound of Music.
After the contestants performed, the judges left to pick who the winner of William Peace’s first Peace Idol would be. While they were deciding who would win, the audience was able to enjoy entertainment by the band Bad Kitty, featuring WPU’s adjunct professor and communications and social media marketing specialist Nabeel Jaitapker. After the band was done playing, the results were in! The runner up was Dalton Hood. And the winner of Peace Idol was Julie Davis.
