On Saturday, September 6, 2014 the William Peace University women’s soccer team took on Hollins University. “I believe this was a good win for us because four years ago Peace was Hollins, a twelve player team and doing their best to keep their heads up,” said Shannon Maddex, a WPU Sophomore soccer player. With the women’s soccer team having twelve returners and four freshmen, it shows that the team has chemistry and teamwork on the field. “Teamwork is key to playing any sport, especially soccer. The field is way too big to play the game yourself for 90 minutes and being willing to pass the ball to let someone else have the goal is what makes a winning team, not trying to do it all yourself,” stated Maddex. Peace upset Hollins by beating them nine to zero. Amelia Melching, Katie Hodges, and Jessica Littleton all had two goals each. While Dava McLamb, Whitney O’Quinn, and Ashley Johnson had one goal each. “I hope this season continues to go good, but any team can face adversity at any time, but a great team pushes through it,” said Ashley Piers, a WPU Sophomore soccer player.
