Football is back, after many months of waiting. From Friday night lights to tailgating at NC State Football games, to screaming at the television on NFL Sunday, America’s favorite sport has finally returned and many people can’t seem to find the words to describe the feeling.

Over the past few months, during the NFL offseason, there have been a tremendous amount of stories covered. From Tom Brady’s appeal of the deflategate scandal to contact extensions with Russell Wilson and Eli Manning being awarded huge extensions from their organizations. All of these make for a great setup for a great season for both college football and the NFL.

“The NFL is the best league to follow, everyone is drawn to it,” said Quinton Howard, a senior at William Peace University. “It feels good to be enduring my last academic year in college with a highly anticipated NFL season.”

After winning Super Bowl 49, the New England Patriots are obviously the heavy favorite to win the Super Bowl this season. But with the “deflategate” scandal looming over the Patriots, and a microscope focused on their star Quaterback, Tom Brady. Some question whether or not the Patriots will be on top of their game this season with a huge target on their backs.

However, it’s not all about the NFL these days, the college football season is just as highly anticipated as the professional players. With the big names like Jamies Winston, out of Florida State, and Marcus Mariota, from Oregon University, who turned pro, it’s anybody’s ball game.

Matt Ard, a devoted Clemson Tigers fan, said, “I’m very excited that college football is back. It brings back the game that I love in the college atmosphere where week by week your favorite teams are fighting to make a name for themselves and of course take home a national title. The CFB playoffs add a whole new form of suspense to the equation. It’s the best time of the year and the best sport in the world.”

This type of excitement at the professional and college levels makes many people appreciate how sports bring us together as a community. It’s going to be quite interesting to see what this year’s season will bring us, but we are all sure it’ll be one for the record books.
