Recently released on Sept. 16, the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are the latest and greatest for all the Apple users out there. So just how impressive are these new phones?

One of the big new things about the iPhone 7 is the fact they are water resistant. This means you can use your phone in the rain and also not have to worry if it falls out of your pocket into the toilet. They also have an improved camera and no longer use a home button or headphone jack.

With all of the hype around the new features, many students are itching to upgrade to the 7.

“I am able to upgrade and I’m always happy to get a new phone,” said sophomore Jewell Manley. “There are new features with the new phone, it’s bigger, has a better camera, and Bluetooth headphones.”

Both screen sizes are the same as the 6 and 6 Plus models; however, the 7’s have a higher pixel count and are 25 percent brighter than the 6’s.

Without a home button, you just need to tap on where the home button used to be and you will feel a small vibration. Instead of a headphone jack, now you can choose to utilize the new stereo speakers at the top and bottom of the phone, or get yourself a pair of their new Bluetooth earbuds.

The only way to use regular headphones is to buy a converter so they can be plugged in to the charging jack.

The new cameras will be exciting for those who take a lot of pictures as both phones have optical image stabilization. This means that pictures will come out clearer when the camera is in motion. The zoom has improved significantly and the flash now offers 50 percent more light than the iPhone 6. Additionally, “a new flicker sensor also adds artificial light, for brighter images in low-light scenarios,” according to a review of the phone by Digital Trends

The camera gets even more sophisticated on the iPhone 7 Plus. While having all the features listed above, it also has a second telephoto lens next to it that allows you to zoom in up to 10 times closer.

Still, some WPU students are content to stick with their older model.

“I have a pretty recent version so I don’t need to spend a ton of money on something that’s not that different,” said junior Andrew Roberts.

So do you think it is worth upgrading? The iPhone 7 costs $649 and comes with 32, 128, and 256 gigabytes of storage. The 7 Plus costs $769 and comes with 128 or 256 gigabytes.
