The North Carolina Agricultural Society debuted the first state fair in 1853 and over a century later the state fair has become a tradition for North Carolinians.
The theme for this year’s fair is “Nothing Could be Finer” and is running from October 13th-23rd.
As many of you know the State Fair is a huge attraction for people all over North Carolina.
“I love going to the State Fair ever since I moved to Raleigh for college,” said junior Lexus Shaw. “Some of the games are really good, especially the basketball game they have. I love the fair as a whole and I will go every year as long as [it] keeps coming.”
Besides the rides, the State Fair is known for its unusual food.
“My favorite thing about the fair is eating all the creative foods they have there,” said junior Ebonie Thomas. “I love eating the turkey legs and having a grilled sausage dog. Sweet wise, I love the fried Oreos and candy!”
Shaw agrees with Thomas about the importance of fair food.
“I don’t get on rides, but mostly I go to eat food,” said Shaw. “Usually I just get a funnel cake and cheese sticks.”
