In upcoming months, William Peace University will be jam packed with new and exciting intramural sports events.
Jamaal Stokes, who has recently been hired as the Director of Athletic Operations and Intramurals for the Pacers’ athletic department, has made it his mission to make intramural sports at Peace exciting and inclusive.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to enhance intramural sports here at Peace. I see a student body who has a thirst for extracurricular activities and I hope to provide an outlet for them.” Says Stokes.
After noticing a lack of community on campus, Stokes took it upon himself to plan various sports events for students to attend and participate in, so that they can enjoy themselves without the stress of being on a Varsity athletics team.
This spring, Peace Intramurals will have a futsal league and a basketball league. In these leagues participants and their teams will compete in games once a week, in hopes to win the league championship.
However, if you don’t want to commit to being in a sports league, Peace Intramurals also offers a wide variety of traditional and not traditional sports tournaments. Some tournaments that are being held this semester include Cup Pong, Spikeball, NBA 2K, and Beach Volleyball.
The new intramurals program at Peace has already proven to be successful. Even full-time student-athletes are interested in participating.
“I like being able to play sports other than my main sport in a competitive environment with my friends,” said sophomore Kieron Williams.
